NOTE the other review here is for a different book, not this one!
Read this to my mom who has some dementia. It's descriptive, dramatic, yet simple enough narratively to engage and maintain her interest. I love the turn of the century prose- colorful, lively, but not as cerebral or requiring the mental gymnastics of, say, Jane Austen or Elizabeth Gaskell (both of whom I love). Simple but dramatic- comprehensible action and motives, peppered with surprises. Good pace, it flows.
***SPOILER ALERT*** A spoiled, headstrong (spirited!) young girl adores her father- but perhaps he's not what she imagines. She's simultaneously wrestling with values- what kind of person will she opt to be? She has NO desire to be like other young women. This would be a GREAT book for a tween or teen girl, but it's suitable for women of all ages. We were on tenderhooks throughout to see what happened. The best part is Heather's spirit. Recommended!
A comparison of words that mormon's think mean one thing while others will believe a meaning that is quite different. I found that as an ex-mormon while I had discussions with non-mormon's I heard a familiar term but my understanding of the word was not the same as theirs! This book clarified those words! Thank you, Shawn!!
